Ewan Pearson refreshes the Monday’s 1990 classic, all the mixes are super nice, but the epic 9 minute dub mix is my pick, sorted!
John Beltran is welcomed into the MotorCity Wine Recordings family with his sun-drenched and soulful debut entitled “Back To Bahia”. Titled after his MCW residency of the same name, the release combines Deep House, Jazz, Boogie, and, of course, música popular Brasileira flavors to welcome the sunshine into your life. All tracks on the EP are top quality, with my personal favourite being ‘Entardecer’ with it’s slo-mo latin guitar being a perfect Summer soundtrack. Available here in digital, or if you’re quick you can pick up a ltd 7″ single from Juno
“The melancholic suburban soul of ‘Southern Freeez’ never gets tired for me….an album that has remained at the top of my Brit Funk pile!” – GILLES PETERSON
Who’s going to argue with Gilles? Not me for sure, the classics have been polished and remastered and the new material is gorgeous…
The latest release from the collaboration between Chris Coco and Luca Averna, with the delicate, atmospheric guitar work of Micko Roache, it’s a timeless, shimmering slice of Balearic perfection. Surely destined to soundtrack sunsets all Summer long, an essential addition to your collection.
A playlist of music I’ve enjoyed listening to this month, some new, some new to me, some old favourites. Should be about right for the sunny Summer days here in the UK. Huge thanks to everyone who’s shared music, playlists, radio shows, mixtapes and good vibes this month x
Discovered this gem on Soundcloud, it’s a work of gentle genius.
They say ‘It’s 1989 and you’ve taken a pill in a club; it gets too much & you wander into the chill out room & the DJ is playing a super mellow set of Radio 4 classics.
Longwave is mostly Rob Manuel. With thanks to David Ault & Chris Barker.’
Rob has been working on some, check notes ‘blinding visuals’ to pair with the mix, here’s a taster. Can’t wait to see the full length edition…
Those lovely people from the Chill Out Tent are back with their next big streaming event on Saturday 20th June into Sunday 21st for the Summer Solstice. They’ve gone global this time, with a 24 hour international epic, starting at sundown in the UK and following the sun to the USA, Hawaii, Australia, Tokyo, Bali, Thailand then back to Europe for an Ibiza sunset and after party. They’ll be bringing chilled, eclectic vibes from from around the world together under one virtual Chill Out Tent.
Super nice of 1BTN radio to invite me to join them for a one hour mix, 10 till 11am Monday 1st June. An hour of super mellow, Balearic business with music from Chris Coco, Cantoma, James Bright and lots more. A great station for a great city, thanks to Chewy Beatwell for hooking things up.
I’ve been seeing more and more quality releases from north west based producer James Bright over the last few months, including releases on Eclectics and Midnight Riot, and mostly recently his excellent track ‘Shimmer’ on the Sol d’en Serra EP on Higher Love Recordings.
He’s about to drop a new six tracker on Danish label Quattro Music, the Betamax EP is set for release on June 6th. If you’re a fan of the summery sounds of labels like Music for Dreams or International Feel then this is one to check. All super Balearic chuggers destined to soundtrack beach bars and pool parties, it’s a really strong package with guitar driven & percussive ‘Groves’ and loon bird & gamelan bubbler ‘Flying Tiger’ among personal favourites. Have a listen to opening track, the super mellow sunset atmospherics of ‘You and Me’ below.

Gallo is a Hell Yeah mainstay, key part of the Berlin based Balearic Gabba Sound System and resident of Buena Onda, Berlin’s only true Balearic bash. His first musical outing of 2020 offers three steamy originals and comes with remixes from The Vendetta Suite and Balearic Gabba Sound System.
