Traks – Long train running

Needing something to cheer me up on this bleak & wintery day I turned to this old favourite; by turns funny, funky and also at times excruciatingly uncomfortable viewing, ladies and gentlemen I give you the mighty Traks and their cover of the Doobie Brothers classic ‘Long Train Running’.

The fleshtone codpiece and preening to camera do make it feel like a Mighty Boosh sketch at times, but I genuinely do think it’s a great version, especially in all it’s extended glory. The now dormant American Athlete blog still has some interesting downloads for the completists.

DJ Harvey & Sarcastic Disco @ Lovebox 2013

I’ve just seen that Harvey and his legendary west coast Sarcastic Disco party will be at London’s Lovebox festival on Sunday 21st July with a full line up Balearic heros: Eric Duncan, Prins Thomas, the Idjut Boys, Force of Nature & Paul T, should be a heck of a party…

So here’s a few related posts, the in depth Harvey interview that All Saints did last year, Eric Duncan’s Dolly Parton edit, Prins Thomas live in Japan, the Idjuts All Saints interview from 2011, and the cracking ‘Straight Ahead’ from Force of Nature,

Flowered Up – Weekender

Classic, cult video for Flowered Up‘s epic 1992 ‘Weekender‘ single (famously mixed by Andrew Weatherall), Brighton film maker Wiz created this dark slice of dance floor escape & hedonism, capturing the first rush of acid house as is washed over London. Some great details in the film, like the Friday night rush at the counter of Quaff records in Soho, and the pirate radio crackling through the intro. The film closes with the words ‘Dedicated to the sufferers of Saturday Night Fever Everywhere. May We Never Be Cured’

Kenneth Bager – Fragment one (… and I kept hearing)

Another chillout classic, this time from Danish eccentric Kenneth Bager…

“Balearic electronica that soundtracks scenes of decadence [where] beautiful women frolic in lacy underwear, white rabbits are regarded as equals and the man conducting the party is dressed as Mozart”

This 2007 Video directed by fashion photograher Ellen Von Unwerth is pretty focussed on the ‘lacy under wear’ theme…
