Tenderness – Gotta Keep On Trying (1978)
A great piece of 1978 vocal disco from Tenderness, re-edited by Harvey as ‘Keep on tryin‘ on his 1996 joint release with the Idjut Boys on Noid #1 and also by Joey Negro/Dave Lee for his 2005 Soul of Disco compilation.
Traks – Long train running
Needing something to cheer me up on this bleak & wintery day I turned to this old favourite; by turns funny, funky and also at times excruciatingly uncomfortable viewing, ladies and gentlemen I give you the mighty Traks and their cover of the Doobie Brothers classic ‘Long Train Running’.
The fleshtone codpiece and preening to camera do make it feel like a Mighty Boosh sketch at times, but I genuinely do think it’s a great version, especially in all it’s extended glory. The now dormant American Athlete blog still has some interesting downloads for the completists.
DJ Harvey & Sarcastic Disco @ Lovebox 2013
I’ve just seen that Harvey and his legendary west coast Sarcastic Disco party will be at London’s Lovebox festival on Sunday 21st July with a full line up Balearic heros: Eric Duncan, Prins Thomas, the Idjut Boys, Force of Nature & Paul T, should be a heck of a party…
So here’s a few related posts, the in depth Harvey interview that All Saints did last year, Eric Duncan’s Dolly Parton edit, Prins Thomas live in Japan, the Idjuts All Saints interview from 2011, and the cracking ‘Straight Ahead’ from Force of Nature,

Madchester the Sound of the North – Documentary
Today’s film is the 1990 Granada ‘Madchester’ documentary telling the story of the Manchester ‘baggy’ scene that grew around the Hacienda, the Stone Roses & the Happy Mondays. Appearances from Tony Wilson, Derek May, 808 State, a Guy called Gerald…oh and Northside and MC Tunes obviously

The The – This is the Day
I have always loved this 1983 classic but never seen the video before, stumbled across it today and noticed it’s filmed on the seafront at my home town Eastbourne, on a typically fine day on the ‘Sunshine Coast’…
Summer of Rave 1989 – Full Documentary
Full length recording of this 2006 BBC broadcast, an attempt to describe the genesis of the rave scene over the Summer of 1989. Features some articulate interviews with Tony Wilson, Fabio, Sheryl Garatt, some voices from the establishment; Douglas Hurd, Kelvin Mackenzie and some frankly bizarre appearances from Jason Donovan, Bill Wyman and Sonia!
It tries to place the acid house generation in the context of Thatcherism and rampant 80’s consumerism.

Soul Train Line Dance to Curtis Mayfield – Get Down
If you’re going out this weekend, how ’bout trying to be a fraction as stylish these stars of the legendary Soul Train line? The music, the clothes and the moves, so, so effortlessly cool…
